Elizabeth was commissioned to create a mosaic for Newton Grange, a mining town and home of The National Mining Museum of Scotland. The mosaic was designed for the garden area of a social housing development. It depicts the form and figure of a miner at work and avoids any formalising of the subject matter.

‘I wanted to draw attention to the pure physicality of mining and the fact that men were down mines for their entire working lives, enduring extreme circumstances.’
